Bees over the summer

I lost my bees this year. I'm not sure what went wrong. I may have starved them. I'll need to try again this spring. I'm continuing on my goals from my last post and have a new blog talking about healthy eating.

January 09 Goals

My first three priorites for this new year is to act on my weight problem. I must do something and it is the act of doing that I am concentrating on. Currently I'm on two different insulins. One is a slow acting and one is a faster acting one. I've been having to monitor my blood sugar and taking the faster acting one three times a day. My Diabetes is worsening. So, I plan on acting on this and do all the things I already know to do, but am not doing.

I enjoy walking, hiking, taking photos, so I plan on doing more of these activities and adding bike riding. We have places to bike that are safe and so I'm getting on the bike. Jeannie talks about getting a treadmill this year so that will help. I have a couple walking DVDs that will help do a structured activity.

The second thing I'm going to act on is organization and downsizing clutter. I've made some progress recently and need to continue. My Mom passed away a couple years ago and I have had to organized some of her items I wanted. Everything got put downstairs and untouched for a while. It seems to multiply and reproduce if I don't stay atop of the clutter.

I think the third will be to do more creative things. Probably do more with my photos by doing digital scrapbooking and scanning some more older photos I have. I also want to sew/quilt this year. I love the process of quilting and need to do more. Mostly, because of clutter I don't.

So, share your goals for this year if you wish. I'll share how I am DOING in the future.

Deep Freeze 08

There has been lots of bees that have died outside the entrance. I suppose the cold is killing them off a bit.
It suddenly went cold and was into the teens at night.
I even noticed some fallen bees a bit away from the entrance, like they flew and froze! I check often and brush away the dead bees from the entrance. I fed them some sugar just before the cold snap.

I'm hoping they will survive the winter. Usually in Washington we don't have this cold for as long as we have had recently. We had about a two week cold and snow session.

Fall/November 2008

Bees In November

I just checked my bees yesterday and the weather was warmer then it has been. It was near 60 degrees. They were flying and still bringing in pollen. Every bee had their baskets full. I wonder where they are getting this. Things are dying off and leaves are falling. We have had near freezing weather in the a.m., but pretty mild during the day yet.

I would love to follow them and see where they are going. I have a backyard hive and I thought they may cluster at this time. This is my first year. I installed bees last April so all of this is new for me. I did have a swarm in June and have rebuilt up to a good population. No honey though this year.

I hope the little creatures will make it through the winter. Our winters are pretty mild. At this time it's just making sure they don't starve.

Halloween Bunny Bee

I found this plate at a thrift store and couldn't pass it up. The bunny is in a bee suit. So cute.!
